Investing in West African Farmers
Current farming practices result in sub-optimal crop yields and a product that is not fit for export markets. Moderate investments into farming inputs, coupled with training and expertise, enable higher yields and a product that can be sold for higher on the export market.
Unlike small artisanal farmers, medium-scale farmers may have relatively sophisticated production technology: pivot or drip irrigation, tractors, optimized fertilization and pesticide treatment schedule, on-staff agronomer, etc.
However, not all medium-scale farmers have reliable access to export produce markets and are forced to take losses on crops they cannot export, either by outright rotting or by being forced to sell at a discount on the local market.
Just like with small farmers, Partagria seeks to work with medium-scale farmers to give them access to global markets, finance production campaigns, and provide expertise on as-needed basis.
